Kochi Tuskers Kerala won the toss and elected to bowl first. For Chennai Super Kings MEK Hussey and M Vijay, for Kochi Tuskers Kerala RP Singh opened the bowling. Chennai Super Kings lost MEK Hussey early to RP Singh for 8. M Vijay and SK Raina played some good shots to take the score near 50 that M Vijay was out. SK Raina held the innings at one end, but other end Chennai lost wickets at regular intervals. S Badrinath and MS Dhoni played little cameos. Chennai Super Kings scored 131 for the loss of 4 wickets in 17 overs. For Chennai Super Kings SK Raina scored 50 and M Vijay scored 28, for Kochi Tuskers Kerala RP Singh, NLTC Perera and RV Gomez took a wicket each.

In reply Kochi Tuskers Kerala opened the batting with BB McCullum and DPMD Jayawardene, for Chennai Super Kings JA Morkel opened the bowling. BB McCullum gave a fantastic start to Kochi Tuskers Kerala. Inspite of DPMD Jayawardene was gone for 16 to R Ashwin when the score was 39 of 4.3 overs, BB McCullum and PA Patel scored at a rapid pace and took score at 90 with over 10 overs. Chennai Super Kings came back with wickets of BB McCullum and PA Patel, but the damage was already done. BJ Hodge and RA Jadeja then steered Kochi Tuskers Kerala home with 7 wickets in hand and 2 overs to spare. For Kochi Tuskers Kerala BB McCullum scored 47 and PA Patel scored 34, for Chennai Super Kings R Ashwin took 2 wickets.
